April 25, 2005 -- Schwan's Bakery, Inc. makers of award-winning Mrs. Smith's home-style pies and Edwards decadent desserts will host the annual pie-eating contest at the Great American
Pie Festival in Celebration, Florida on Saturday, April 23rd - Sunday, April 24th 2005, starting at 11:00 a.m. on Market Street.
The pie-eating contest is a highlight of the nationally-renowned Great American Pie Festival, sponsored by the American Pie Council (APC). The pie-eating contests will continue throughout
Saturday and Sunday and are great fun for children and adults.
"The festival is absolutely one of the best treats that you can give yourself and the family this weekend," said Schwan's Bakery Brand Manager Melinda Pritchett . "Where else can you
sample and savor so many wonderful pies in one place"
Pritchett says contestants will feast on great products like Chocolate Cream, Banana Cream and Lemon Meringue pies during the competition. To enter, register at the Mrs. Smith's and
Edwards booth located at the festival site. Registration is open all day and tickets are available on-site. Winners will take home several valuable prizes including the ever-popular Mrs.
Smith's pies and Edwards desserts. Contestants and spectators will receive complimentary gifts while supplies last.
Mrs. Smith's and Edwards have won over fourteen 1st-Place APC pie championships. Mrs. Smith's winning desserts have included Deep Dish Cherry Crumb, Apple Crumb, No Sugar Added Apple, and
Soda Shoppe Coconut Cream.
The APC has also picked Edwards' Key Lime Pie and Key Lime Slices among the "best" pies in America. Other iconic favorites include OREO Cream Pie, Georgia Pecan, Chocolate Creme Pie made
with HERSHEY'S, as well as the ever-popular Pie and Cheesecake Slices.
