Schwan'ss Home Service, Inc., a subsidiary of The Schwan Food Company, announced the sale of the Impromptu Gourmet® food catalog business. The business was purchased by M&S Fine
Foods, Inc., a specialty food cataloger and online retailer. Terms of the sale were not released.
M&S representatives said they will continue to operate the brand using the Impromptu Gourmet name. They said they are not planning to incorporate the brand into existing catalogs.
The sale of the Impromptu Gourmet business is a testament to the rapid growth of this brand in the food catalog industry. Since its launch, the brand has nearly doubled in revenue each
year, said Schwan Executive Vice President Bill McCormack. This sale will allow us to focus on our core Home Service business. M&S Fine Foods's core business is food catalogs and the
Impromptu Gourmet brand will fit nicely into their catalog business and enable the brand to continue to grow.
Home Service will continue to operate the Impromptu Gourmet business for M&S Fine Foods for the next several months as the brand transitions from one company to another.
In addition, Schwan'ss Global Supply Chain, Inc., a subsidiary of The Schwan Food Company, will continue to produce Impromptu Gourmet items for M&S Fine Foods.
The transition is expected to be complete in August.
Many of the Home Service employees who worked with the brand have accepted other positions with Schwan subsidiaries. One employee has decided to stay with the brand and will relocate to
M&S'ss corporate offices in Virginia after the transition period.
Home Service'ss gourmet food line started in 2003 as the Schwan'ss Select business. The business changed its name to Impromptu Gourmet products in 2004.
