The BROADMOOR Welcomes BBQ University

Ladies and Gentlemen: fire up your grills!This June, the historic BROADMOOR will be hosting grilling authority Steven Raichlen's acclaimed Barbecue University in Colorado Springs. The celebrated grilling school, touted as the "best BBQ experience in the U.S." by the Food Network, is led by Steven Raichlen, an award-winning author, journalist, teacher, and the man who gave barbecue a college education. BBQ University at The BROADMOOR is a three-night, three-day interactive grilling course that offers techniques to novice and expert barbecue lovers alike, in addition to all of the amenities of the Five-Star, Five-Diamond BROADMOOR. BBQ University will be held at The BROADMOOR June 1-4, 2008, and June 4-7, 2008.

The adventure kicks off with a welcome reception in Rocky Mountain Style! The progressive-style reception will offer several stations of gourmet Colorado cuisine and the opportunity to "meat" and mingle with fellow classmates-then the acclaimed course begins. Every morning Barbecue University commences at 9:00 a.m., followed by a multi-course lunch of the dishes learned in class; after all, barbecuing is not spectator's sport. "Students gain confidence with hands-on experience using more than 20 wood-burning, charcoal, gas, and infrared grills, as well as kamado cookers and smokers," says Raichlen. "The goal is for the students to learn not only what to grill, but how to grill, using the principles and techniques that will make them grilling rock stars among family, friends, and business associates."

After class, students are encouraged to relax and take advantage of The BROADMOOR's wide-range of activities, from the three championship golf courses to the award-winning Spa, and more than 13 dining options including Colorado's only AAA Five-Diamond Penrose Room, beloved Charles Court, and the Adam D. Tihany-designed Summit. Add in the vast retail shops and on-property movie theater, as well as nightly entertainment at The Tavern and Golden Bee pub, and the options are limitless.
