AFI Raises 3000 for Military Charity at Armed Forces Bowl

More than 2,500 Armed Forces Bowl fans whose photos became part of a commemorative thank you poster for overseas troops helped Armed Forces Insurance raise $3,000 for Give 2 The Troops during the December Armed Forces Bowl at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, TX.

The donation will be used to cover postage for care packages that are sent to soldiers around the globe, according to Andi Grant, president and founder of Give 2 The Troops, which supports deployed U.S. troops with loving care packages and letters from all over the nation.

We'sre thrilled about AFI'ss donation - postage is a huge cost for us, so gifts like this one are extremely helpful. The troops are really going to love the poster and the sentiment, too, Grant said.

At the AFI booth in the Armed Forces Adventure Area, photographers took pictures of fans coming through the area. These photos were then used to create a larger mosaic image of an American flag and an eagle using cutting-edge computer technology, which will be made into posters and sent as part of a care package to troops overseas during March. Fans coming through the AFI booth donated more than $1,500 for Give 2 The Troops while AFI - which served as the title Partner for the Adventure Area - matched fan donations, bringing the total raised to more than $3,000.

The photo mosaic poster was a huge hit. Three photographers were working all day, with a continuous line of fans waiting to be photographed, said Kurt Seelbach, president and chief operating officer, Armed Forces Insurance. It was inspiring to see so many people wanting to thank our troops and raise money for Give 2 The Troops at the same time. AFI is honored to have been a part of that.

A festival designed specifically for the celebration of military service, the Armed Forces Adventure Area was located outside the main entrance of the stadium the day before and during the Bowl. The Adventure Area featured booths from all military branches and other sponsors, with military equipment and hardware on display.

At AFI, we'sre dedicated to meeting the unique insurance needs of American military families across the globe. This project is one more way of thanking them for their service to our great nation, Seelbach said.

As the Official Insurance Partner of the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl, AFI also served as the co-presenting Partner of the Team Kickoff Luncheon and the presenting Partner of the 2008 Great American Patriot Award.
