Fans Give NFL 30566 Reasons to Not Reinstate Michael Vick

New York, NY July 24, 2009 -- One day after Michael Vick being released from serving 23 months on a dog-fighting conviction a package arrived at NFL Headquarters in Manhattan. The package contained a 2,170 page petition with signatures and comments from NFL fans who do not want Michael Vick reinstated by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Many of the 30,566 NFL fans had comments for Goodell, some simple as that by Gene McKee of Canal Winchester Ohio who wrote 'sDo the right thing!!'s. Others had a more elaborate message such as Patti Bungard of Milton New Hampshire who writes 'sIt is getting increasingly tiresome to see these supposed role models getting away with their transgressions. What a horrible message to send to kids today's8230;if you have money and fame - rules and laws don'st apply to you. Please keep Michael Vick out of the NFL.'s

Caroline Bishop of Dallas Texas organized the petition and after meeting Johnny Hurler via the popular social networking site Facebook they teamed up to deliver the petition to the intended target, Commissioner Goodell. Bishop explained Sure we could have sent the petition via email but as I said in my letter sent with the petition we felt it would be very easy to be ignored that way. I felt I had an obligation to those who signed the petition to see that it reached the target otherwise the petition is pretty much irrelevant. In her letter to Aiello which accompanied the 2,170 page petition Bishop writes If you could please make sure this (the petition) is forwarded to Roger Goodell, we would be eternally grateful.

Bishop met Hurler on the Facebook Site 'sBAN Michael Vick from Football's of which Hurler is moderator. Johnny Hurler from Manasquan New Jersey states Caroline did a great job, we linked up on Facebook and I thought I could help the petition to go a step further. We decided low tech in an age of high tech was the way to go. I thought what if this was the sixties and Joe Namath or Johnny Unitas did what Vick did, what then No email, fax, blackberry or i-phone, someone would have stood in the bus terminal or Giants Stadium parking lot and got signatures on a petition and it would be delivered to the NFL as we did in this case. It is more effective, and at least we did our best to see Goodell got the message. Michael Vick has no place in the NFL, we are not alone in that opinion. More importantly we are not PETA lunatics. Yes, we love our dogs and we love football. Most Americans do. It is a sad day when a man who had everything felt the need to do what Vick did, he killed dogs because they didn'st fight well enough and if fighting them and killing them wasn'st bad enough he did it with his bare hands. This is not a guy we want to see playing in the NFL, let alone for my team.

It remains to be seen if Commissioner Goodell will reinstate Vick. Goodell has said he will meet with Vick shortly but gave no timetable as to when his decision will be made. UPS tracking information indicates Bishop'ss petition was received at NFL headquarters but it can not be confirmed if it will ever make it in to the hands of Commissioner Goodell.
