Tampa, FL November 11, 2008 -- A Mike Ditka (http://www.gridirongreats.org/) and Gridiron Greats (http://www.gridirongreats.org/) press conference announced today will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 9:15 a.m. in Tampa, Florida. The conference will feature 20 retired NFL legends and Colonel John T. Carney Jr., U.S.A.F. Recent meetings between retired NFL players and Roger Goodell will also be addressed at the conference. Conference attendees will include Mike Ditka, Colonel John T Carney Jr., U.S. A. F., Gale Sayers, Jack Youngblood, Jim Kiick, Darryl Talley, Errict Rhett, Tyrone Keys, Members of the SOWF and others.
Announced will be a groundbreaking partnership whereby Mike Ditka'ss Gridiron Greats will team up with the special operations community of the U.S. Military (http://www.gridirongreats.org) for an initiative that will simultaneously raise awareness and funds for the quiet professionals of both communities:
retired NFL players in dire need and the military'ss special operations personnel (http://www.gridirongreats.org) killed/wounded in combat or
training missions (including the surviving children of Army, Navy, Air Force (http://www.gridirongreats.org) and Marine Corps). Both the
special operations community and the Gridiron Greats share a bond of brotherhood. It is with this strong sense of esprit de corps which bonds members of a team, that retired professional
football players and special operators vow to take care of their own and have formed this very special relationship.
During the press event, Ditka and former NFL players will also discuss the recent private meetings held by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell with retired players and will also discuss the
catastrophic conditions many retired NFL players face. Players who have attended the Goodell meetings and some NFL players who have been assisted by the GGAF will be in attendance and
will share their experiences and thoughts regarding the lack of meaningful assistance provided by the NFLPA/NFL to retired players.
Also announced, will be details regarding a series of significant initiatives to take place nationwide and in Tampa, Florida during Super Bowl week, which will bring together an
unprecedented group of over 100 NFL Legends to raise funds and awareness for retired NFL players and the United States Military special operations personnel. This unprecedented initiative
is the largest humanitarian project to date to assist retired players in dire need.
Mike Ditka will announce a partnership between the Gridiron Greats (www.gridirongreats.org) and Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. He will
unveil the Super Bowl week slate of Gridiron Greats events to take place at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and the NFL Legends that will attend. This initiative will bring together over
