Paddy Power today launched betting on the Poker Grand Slam 2006 which takes place in the Star City Casino, Birmingham, England on Tuesday 10 and Wednesday 11 January 2006.



The tournament pits teams from England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, France and Sweden against each other in an innovative event designed to find the champion poker nation of Europe.



The odds are on

Punters can bet on a variety of outcomes including winning country, outright winner, and highest finishing team captain.



France and Sweden are 4/1 joint favourites with England, Republic of Ireland and Wales at 5/1 and Northern Ireland and Scotland are at 6/1.

Points AND prizes

The Grand Slam is being televised by Sky Sports in March 2006 and will also be shown across Scandinavia and in Australia.



The prize pool of 's8364;210,000 will be divided between a team prize of 's8364;110,000 and individual prizes for the final table comprising 's8364;50,000 (1st), 's8364;30,000 (2nd) and 's8364;20,000 (3rd).



Each of the seven countries will send a team of six players. The buy-in for the tournament is 's8364;5,000.



Each player will earn points according to their elimination position with the title of Grand Slam Winners 2006 going to the team that accumulates the most points.
