When students return to school this Fall - their world will have dramatically expanded thanks to Real Lives 2010, an exciting new product from Educational Simulations.
We believe Real Lives 2010 represents a true breakthrough in Global Simulation games, says Bob Runyan, president of Educational Simulations, and author of Real Lives 2010.
Real Lives appeals to students, gamers, and anyone who is curious to learn about countries and living conditions around the world.
The premise of the game is simple: players are born as an infant anywhere on the planet. From that point onward, they must face challenges and make decisions along their life journey.
Disease, hardship, and family mishaps are common, as are friendship, love, and economic success. Each Real Life character is completely unique and original, brought to life out of a
massive database of global facts and cultural reference points.
Players must not only navigate career choices and romantic relationships, but they are also challenged over the course of their life to make moral decisions:
A friend needs to borrow some money. Do you help them out
Your friends have decided to smoke. Do you start smoking
You find money laying on the table. Do you take the money or return it
While there is no immediate consequence to these choices, over the course of the game, a players's overall decision pattern begins to affect their levels of personal happiness and
integrity.
Not only did we want to provide people with a way to immerse themselves in the day to day reality of other cultures, says Runyan, but we really wanted to create a game that generates a
level of empathy.
Just as in real life, players can experience heart-breaking tragedy. John Walker, a freshman from Plymouth Whitemarsh High School recounts his Real Life as a farmer in Senegal, I finally
got my small farming business running successfully. Then my wife became ill with dysentery and died. Then I become sick and within two years I died too! We left behind two young children.
In addition to countless real life situations and choices, Real Lives 2010 game play is supported by a rich set of personal and country related data including:
* family trees
* graphs of character attributes over time
* graphs of country data
* character obituary
