In response to their need to simulate realistic behaviors and physical phenomenon in 3D training simulations, the U.S. Navy has awarded Planet LLC a $600,000 contract to develop a
software interface for instructional systems designers and content creators to add physics-based behaviors into portable web-based 3D training simulations. Once completed, these tools
will be available for the F-35 Lightening II maintenance courseware development team led by Northrop Grumman Corporation under direction from Lockheed Martin Corporation, and sold
commercially in Planet's8217;s Hypercosm software suite.
The two-year contract was awarded by the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) in Orlando, Florida. It is an extension of a previous contract that demonstrated Hypercosm's8217;s ability to
add force modifiers and equation-based behaviors into simulations created in AutoDesk's8217;s 3ds Max's8482; 3D modeling software.
Planet'ss goal is to integrate videogame physics engine capability into Hypercosm, but make it truly user-friendly. 's8220;This is a great opportunity for Hypercosm to expand its 3D
authoring tools so instructional system designers can create fully interactive 3D maintenance training applications with little to no programming,'s8221; stated project manager Ryan
Burnett. 's8220;We really are offering content creators the ability to add realistic behaviors such as torque, collision detection, heat transfer, fluid dynamics and air flow for the
first time without C++ programming or scripting.'s8221;
The project will also offer training and courseware development support to the members of the F-35 Lightening II courseware development team, including project partner American Systems
Corporation.
's8220;We are extremely pleased to work with Planet to provide our expertise in Instructional Systems Development (ISD) and our courseware authoring knowledge to develop an effective and
efficacious training product for F-35 personnel,'s8221; commented Dennis Corrigan, VP of the Training Division at American Systems Corporation. 's8220;Our success as a team for Phase I of
the SBIR process convinced me that this technology is both on the cutting edge and the right capability for cost effective training for the future aviators and maintainers in the
F-35.'s8221;
The advances in collision detection and basic physics modeling will make simulations much more immersive and meaningful to maintainers and operators. Planet will deliver its first set of
physics modifiers to Navair in late 2006. A demonstration of the collision detection technology developed for the project can be viewed at: http://www.hypercosm.com/showcase/index.html.

About Hypercosm
Hypercosm creates products and technologies to enable highly interactive 3D simulations for mobile training, education and design visualization. Hypercosm'ss patented approach to encoding
object geometry and behaviors results in low file size simulations that can be delivered over the web practically and effectively, even with low bandwidth connections. Hypercosm products
and services have provided web-based interactive astronaut training, assembly instructions, familiarization training, science education aids and 3D architectural designs. The Hypercosm
Medical Group, led by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Gerry Higgins, focuses on aspects of digital medical publishing, distance learning courseware, medical procedure training and anatomical
visualization. For more information and to view solution demonstrations, visit us on-line at www.hypercosm.com.
