s already shaping up to be a banner year for French poker pro David Benyamine. But Day 23 of PokerListings.com's live 2008 World Series of Poker* coverage saw Benyamine's year get even better - and his legend grow a little further - with his first-ever gold bracelet in Event 37, the $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo Split Eight-or-Better World Championship.

Curaao, Netherlands Antilles June 24, 2008 -- Rumored to have pocketed almost $3.5 million at the online Pot-Limit Omaha tables since January, 2008 was already shaping up to be a banner year for French poker pro David Benyamine.

But Day 23 of PokerListings.com's com's live 2008 World Series of Poker* coverage (http://www.pokerlistings.com/live-tournaments/wsop) saw Benyamine's year get even better - and his legend grow a little further - with his first-ever gold bracelet in Event 37, the $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo Split Eight-or-Better World Championship.

One of the most talked about and railed high-stakes pros for years, known for his huge bankroll swings and insatiable lust for big action, the affable and articulate Benyamine had definitely earned his place as one of the game's most respected cash game pros.

Surprisingly, however, some had openly questioned his tournament skills.

With four top-10 finishes in the 2008 Series and an iconic gold bracelet now under his belt, that's no longer an issue - if it ever really was - as Benyamine explained in his post-win interview (http://www.pokerlistings.com/poker-player-interviews/wsop/2008/velador-wins-plcom-interviews):

"I haven't really tried hard to play the tournaments, I've been playing the cash games, only playing tournaments sometimes. My first job has been to play the cash games.

"And a couple of people this year, they said, so far you're not doing anything in tournaments and so I turned around and said, this year I'm going to turn up and I'm going to show them.

"(But) I really never felt like I have anything to prove, I play poker because I like it and I will keep on doing it the same way!"

Given his hot streak and now-proven tournament acumen, Benyamine also cemented himself as one of the favorites for the upcoming marquee $50k H.O.R.S.E. event, starting Wednesday.

"It looks like I'm running good and there's a chance I'll do good. Who knows, maybe I'll win another one!"

With the Euro2008 football quarterfinals also playing out over the weekend, it was only fitting Europeans swept all of the bracelets up for grabs as well.

Taking Event 36, $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em, was Danish pro Jesper Hougaard, and taking Event 38, $2,000 Pot-Limit Hold'em, was Belgian pro Davidi Kitai - the first-ever player from Belgium to win a World Series bracelet.

Post-win interviews with all bracelet winners so far this year can be found in the PokerListings.com player interview section (http://www.pokerlistings.com/live-tournaments/player-interviews).
