When the Cat is Away The Mice Will Play Online Poker in the Office

June 13, 2005 -- Resident Online Poker expert for Sports911.com Bones McCoy, recently discussed in one of his web site reviews the subject of playing internet poker tournaments from the office computer.

Let's face it, the boss doesn't want us even logging onto the Internet let alone playing online poker. But like Sports911.com's Bones McCoy, work often must come second to playing poker. Easy for Bones to say since he is now actively employed..thus providing him and others not confined to an office environment with a huge advantage when playing in tourneys.

"This is an unprecedented phenomenon that I am surprised other web sites have not touched on," comments Bones McCoy.

McCoy, who has won a number of online poker tournaments during regular business hours explains why this is such an advantage.

"Many players will simply log off out of the blue. The reason I have since discovered - and trust me this happens quite a lot - their boss has just entered the room or these players must take an important phone call. Playing poker in the office leads to a number of outside distractions that then leads to a tremendous advantage to those of us who are unemployed."

In the above scenario the games at sites such as BodogPoker.com keep on going. All the chips go to the active players since the logged off players keep losing the blinds, and the ante keeps getting progressively bigger. Let me tell you all something, I have made an absolute killing playing in the Bodog Poker room during the week. Fact is, most poker sites have auto folds so the other player wins the blinds by default.

The urge to play online poker at the office and risk being terminated was recently covered in a BBC piece filed by reporter, Ben Richardson.

Adrian Scarfe, clinical practice manager at gambling addiction counseling and advice service Gamcare, commented in the article.

"It's a problem 24/7," Scarfe stated. "In the last three years we have seen a change. Internet gambling has risen steadily and in my view it will continue to rise."

According to Gamcare's latest report, of the 4,452 first time callers that provided details of their gambling experiences, 9% stated that the gambling was taking place on the Internet.

"I have many friends who are simply bored behind a desk and pass the time playing online poker," commented McCoy. "I have zero friends who keep on playing when the boss steps into the room."
