Instead of taking to the streets, Jeff Key filmed his own tour of duty in Iraq, and constructed a withering documentary on the inside workings of the US military, and his own troubled interactions with the people of Iraq. The documentary will be shown as part of the queerDOC annual documentary film festival being held at the Dendy Newtown, from September 12 to September 20.
Lex Lindsay, Festival Director for Queer Screen, commented, "Semper FI is a powerful protest against the brutal conflict in Iraq. With footage shot by an ordinary soldier within a marine unit, this soldier lays his life on the line, and is forced to throw away everything he believes is right -- in order to obey his superiors."
