Dr. James Salz (www.drsalz.com) returned recently from the Storm Eye Institute meeting of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery in
Charleston, South Carolina. At the meeting, Dr. James Salz presented clinical details and photographs of a patient he operated on nine years ago for high hyperopia (farsightedness)
requiring two separate intraoclular lens implants (piggyback lenses). The patient presented last week had glaucoma secondary to a forward shift of both lenses caused by fluid build up
behind the implants, a known complication. Dr. Salz used a Yag laser to open the capsule behind the two lenses and this reduced the pressure in the eye by allowing the fluid that had
built up behind the lenses to drain through the proper channel in the front of the eye. The patient is now doing well without any loss of vision.
The Storm Eye Institute meeting is a great opportunity to get together with some of the top LASIK and refractive surgeons in the United States, and to share the latest techniques with an
audience of over 250 ophthalmologists, Dr. James Salz, President of Laser Vision Medical Associates commented.
