LowVision.com and Optelec US Join Forces with Braille Institute for the Educational Programs Conference

LowVision.com and Optelec US are proud to announce their sponsorship of Braille Institute's 2007 Educational Programs Conference to be held on July 24, 2007 at Braille Institute's Los Angeles headquarters. The Educational Programs Conference is an all staff retreat for Braille Institute employees, arranged to motivate, excite, and promote professional development.

"We strongly believe in Braille Institute's mission to educate and raise awareness about low vision rehabilitation," says LowVision.com President, Dr. Lynne Noon. "Our support of the organization stems from their relentless push to help those with low vision ."

With the focus of this year's conference being Low Vision Rehabilitation, Braille Institute, along with LowVision.com and Optelec US, will be unveiling a new practice model for Low Vision Rehabilitation. The new practice model establishes the role of the Occupational Therapist in the rehabilitation process. "While this educational conference is a professional development program for Braille Institute staff, the fact that Mary Warren is one of our keynote speakers signifies the importance of the multi-disciplinary approach to low vision rehabilitation. We recognize the importance of the role of OTs. Our collaboration with the OT program at California State University, Dominquez Hills, demonstrates this commitment. We are learning more about how OTs fit into the delivery of services for people with low vision of all ages and we are educating them about low vision rehabilitation from the agency perspective," says Sally Jameson, VP of Programs and Services, Braille Institute.

Mary Warren, MS, OT, this year's featured guest speaker, will reinforce the new practice model and speak on how important the roll of the Occupational Therapist is in Low Vision Rehabilitation. "Adding occupational therapy to the mix can help ease the manpower shortage facing the field of low vision rehabilitation," says Ms. Warren. "The unique training of occupational therapists has the potential to enhance Braille Institute's ability to address issues related to both vision loss for older consumers and multiple impairments for children and consumers with brain injury."
