Dr. Meier has won many awards for her superior research and teaching skills. She is the director of the Center to Advance Palliative Care, a national initiative of the Robert Wood Johnson
Foundation, devoted to increasing the number and quality of palliative care programs in the United States. She is a professor of geriatrics and internal medicine at Mount Sinai School of
Medicine in New York City, where she has taught since 1983. Dr. Meier has published extensively in all major peer-reviewed medical journals and is also figured prominently in the Bill
Moyers series On Our Own Terms: Dying the America, a four-part documentary that aired on PBS.
Dr. Meier affirms the importance of clergy participating fully in the care of patients who are at the end of their lives. She is a graduate of Oberlin College and Northwestern University
Medical School.
