Smoy PhotoCuffs An Ideal Accessory You Can Individualize New Line of Bracelets Bring MediaEnabled Accessorizing to Digital Camera Generation
Capitalizing on the growing popularity of digital cameras, web cams, and other imaging devices, Smoy Fashions one of a small number companies making customizable accessories, today announced the release of its newest product line, the Smoy PhotoCuff.
The PhotoCuff is a bracelet that can be individualized by sliding pictures, photobooth sequences, camera phone snapshots or index prints into a series of plastic windows that line the bracelet.
PhotoCuffs comes in three styles: Brooklyn, Soho 1 and Soho 4. All three styles come in five colors.
Spencer Moy, the designer behind Smoy PhotoCuffs, assembles each of the precision laser-cut vinyl bracelets by hand.
"I care about quality so that's why I have the material laser cut and put each cuff together myself. It's a little more expensive but it's worth it," Moy says.
Moy, a lifelong New Yorker, says he got the idea for PhotoCuffs while working for an electronics manufacturer in Tokyo.
"I wanted to come up with something where people can make it into their own unique creation. I know everyone is trying to find their creative outlet. It s like people are adding their own twist on my design. I provide them a simple canvas and they add a creative personality to it," Moy explains.
PhotoCuffs are catching on with urban fashionistas like Jenny Ostroff, 22, of New York City.
"A person's accessories are the key to setting off an outfit and showing who you are. It makes you different. It's the number one way to set yourself apart," she says.
Jenny's favorite new accessory is a product called the Smoy PhotoCuff, a bracelet which looks somewhat like a filmstrip strung around your wrist and fitted with pictures. Ideal for photobooth sequences, camera phone snapshots or index prints, photos slide easily into the pockets and clear plastic covering protects the pics from wear and tear.
"The PhotoCuff is really fun because you can put anything you want inside 8211; pictures, artwork, newspaper clippings - whatever feeling you want to express that day!," Ostroff said.
Smoy PhotoCuffs are already being heralded in cyberspace as a clever new accessory. The A-List blog named it as Fashion Product of the Week in August and the Cool Hunting blog called it "a well-conceived product. A cross between a modern locket and wearing your heart on your sleeve."
Sarah Burnett, 24, another New Yorker, prefers the sleeker Soho 4 in light blue.
"I put pictures of my cat and some of my roommates inside. People always ask me about it. It's really fun to have an accessory that's all my own. And you can change the display pictures to go with your outfit," Burnett says.
Smoy PhotoCuffs are available at a boutique near you retailing at $17 (Soho 1), $20 (Soho 4) and $25 (Brooklyn). For more information and secure online purchasing visit www.smoy.net.
