Looking for a unique, fun gift for that special girl or lady in your life An Arizona-based mother-son writing team thinks they have the answer. The pair has written the Cheer 'sEm On Sports Guide, a sports book for girls and women interested in learning more about the country'ss most popular games.
As we wrote, we kept thinking of the types of girls and women we could help out. We felt like sports moms, girlfriends with sports-addicted boyfriends, cheerleaders, and grandmas with
grandkids who play sports would benefit the most, says co-author, Clay Cavanaugh. The common thread across the groups is that the more they understand about sports, the more they'sll
enjoy the time they already spend going to or watching sports events, he continues.
The Cavanaughs say they were motivated to write the book because they noticed a trend of increased interest in sports by girls and women, but no corresponding increase in sports-related
information made specifically for them. What girls and women want is a 'sSports 101's, a basic understanding of a sport, then have a quick and easy reference to look up the more advanced
terms and strategies as they come across them, says Carol Cavanaugh.
In trying to fill that void, the authors made what they call a hybrid sports reference book. It'ss meant to work as a guidebook on the reader'ss first pass through, but also has a
sport-specific glossary that defines more technical terms. They claim that any of the guide'ss six sports can be learned in about 30 minutes, helping time-challenged readers.
The book breaks down baseball, basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, and wrestling, six of the most popular sports in the U.S. It introduces a light history and then jumps into the
structure of the game, its rules, and some basic strategies.
The Cheer 'sEm On Sports Guide is available now at Amazon.com. More information on the book can also be found at the book'ss official site, www.cheeremonsports.com.
