Doll collecting usually congers up images of little old ladies in houses filled to the rafters with antique dolls. Not so. Just visit the annual IDEX Doll and Teddy Bear Show to find dolls of every type, size and construction. While most of the dolls and bears are original or limited edition artist creations with a price tag to match, there were some unique doll makers offering affordable dolls meant to be played with.
Just ask the Citrus Council Girls Scouts. Seventy five scouts visited the show on Saturday to check out what IDEX had to offer its youngest doll enthusiasts. Their first stop was a visit
with Bev White of Happy Tymes Collectibles to make their own cute little cuddly critters. Bev'ss Teddies to Go (http://www.happytymes.net/teddiestogo) are a great way to introduce youngsters to the artistry of teddy bears. From there the Scouts spilled
onto the show floor for a scavenger hunt coordinated by show'ss promoter Madavor. The scouts also got to see first hand the amazing creativity and artistry involved in the making dolls
and bears.
The proverbial cherry on the top of the sundae - - each girl received her very own Karito Kids (http://www.karitokids.com) Doll care of Laura and
Lisa of KidsGive. These dolls are meant to be played with and educate young girls that 's8230;kids around the world are pretty much the same, and given the chance want to help each other.
In addition to the dolls, girls can go to the Karito Kids website to play games, earn points and learn about other cultures.
For just $59, girls can enjoy the funky friends from Inspire U., LLC. The Friends Forever Girls's174; (http://www.friendsforevergirls.com)
are more than just dolls. Founder of Inspire U. Lisa Necochea explains As a mom, what makes The Friends Forever Girls's174; so special is the Butterfly Promise that the girls make to each
other. The girls (doll characters) created it in the first book, The First Day of Forever, and use it to navigate through their life and friendship.
An unexpected surprise was the even more affordable cloth dolls created by Kathy and Janet Lennon of the famed Lennon Sisters. Kathy and Janet have recreated the homemade rag dolls made
for them by their Mom and Nana. We want other young children to know the joy of holding soft little dolls in their arms, listening to sweet music, and sharing special moments with their
Best Pals (http://www.bestpals.net)'s8230;
It is great to see that doll makers are reaching out to young girls to engage them in the appreciation of doll artistry and offering affordable dolls with a conscience.
