Bay Point Course Extreme Makeover Nicklaus Resort Course at Bay Point
January 15, 2005 -- The golf course known as one of the toughest and most challenging courses in the Florida Panhandle is getting an "extreme makeover." Honours Golf announces that Bay Point's Lagoon Legend, located in Panama City, Florida, has closed and begun construction on its major renovation.
Nicklaus Design has been selected to completely redesign and spearhead this new project. The redesign will consist of a complete renovation to include the re-routing of certain holes, the re-building of the tees, bunkers, and greens, as well as re-contouring of the fairways. This par-71 championship-caliber course will measure over 7,000 yards and will be the first Nicklaus course in the Florida Panhandle. The course will feature the natural terrain of scrub oaks, pines and salt-water marshes and offer panoramic views of St. Andrew's Bay.
"In keeping with the commitment and vision to re-establish the golf course as one of the finest in the Gulf Coast, a complete renovation was necessary," said Bob Barrett, chief executive officer of Honours Golf. "We're absolutely thrilled to have Nicklaus Design apply their expertise to create a layout that will not only improve the aesthetics of the course, but create new challenges to enhance our golfers' experiences."
Construction on the Nicklaus Resort Course began in November 2004, and is expected to be completed by fall 2005. It will re-open under its new name and join its recently renovated sister course, the Meadows, serving the Bay Point Coastal Resort Community. Honours Golf Company currently manages the 36-hole golf facility.
In addition to the golf course renovation, major changes are currently in progress at the Bay Point Resort. This Marriott Resort is renovating 200 rooms in the main tower and adjacent buildings. The lobby, main restaurant and primary bar are being completely redesigned. All renovations are slated for completion March 1, 2005.
