Golfweek Names Grande Dunes Golf Club One Of Americas Top 100 Residential Courses

January 8, 2005 -- Golfweek magazine has named Grande Dunes Golf Club one of America's Best "Top 100 Residential Golf Courses." The recognition appeared in the 2005 special edition of Golfweek.

Grande Dunes Golf Course, designed by Roger Rulewich, a former member of the Robert Trent Jones design team, is one of two championship courses at Grande Dunes. The second course, the Grande Dunes Members Club Course designed by PGA Hall of Fame golfer Nick Price and award-winning golf course architect Craig Schreiner, is under construction and set to debut in 2005. Both are part of the Mediterranean-inspired Grande Dunes, a master-planned residential resort community in Myrtle Beach.

"The shifting directions and the use of water as a setback medium create a golf community . . . that has helped transform the identity of Myrtle Beach, making it more of a residential golf community, not just a haven for daily-fee golfers," wrote Bradley Klein, Golfweek senior writer and architectural editor.

A team of 350 trained raters reviewed thousands of golf courses located in residential communities across the United States. Only 100 met the standards to be included in this elite group, considered to be "models of smart planning."

The much-anticipated Members Club Course at Grande Dunes is expected to draw similar accolades when it opens in 2005.

"This exclusive golf course will be the centerpiece of a haven inside Grande Dunes, said Mike Buccerone, director of golf for the private Member's Club at Grande Dunes. "Much care is being taken to create a sanctuary-type atmosphere with a limited number of houses discretely bordering the eight holes on the front nine and quaint cottages planned along the 9th and 18th holes."

Accompanying the Members Club will be a 27,000-square-foot Italianate Clubhouse. A full-service golf shop, a bistro, casual grill, full-service dining room, private members library with full bar and fireplace, and private board rooms will be available for members' use.
