The pairing is equally exciting for Tom Watson, who will spend this weekend defending his Senior British Open title. 's8220;I's8217;m looking forward to playing with Donald Trump in this historic event on Governors Island,'s8221; said Watson.



The inaugural Manhattan Golf Classic features the dynamic female pairing of World #1 and 2006 US Open Champion Annika Sorenstam, and rising LPGA sensation Natalie Gulbis, a recent runner up in a three-hole playoff at the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic.All prize money will be donated to two NYC charities: Toys for Hospitalized Children and the Academy for Sports Marketing in Harlem.



The 18-hole encounter will be played out on a specially designed provisional course that is being created for this single event only by East Coast Shaping. And what better way to do it than at the place of the city's8217;s origins, Governors Island, formerly home to the Dutch provisional administration of New Amsterdam dating back to 1624.



It's8217;s not the first time that Trump has been in the spotlight on the fairways. He has been a headliner for years at the AT@T Pro-AM at Pebble Beach as well as the celebrity-only American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe where he recently spent three days out on the links with Ben Roethlisberger, Paul O's8217;Neill, Bode Miller, Ray Allen, and Jerry Rice.



The Manhattan Golf Classic, though, takes Trump's8217;s competitive play to a whole new dimension. Touting a five-handicap and a mental toughness that prevails from boardroom to fairway, the Watson-Trump pairing will be a formidable one for Sorenstam-Gulbis. Trump will have another competitive edge going into the event as well: Tiger Woods's8217; coach Hank Haney will be on site for four days conducting private VIP golf clinics.



And just in case you think that the head-to-head battle might get too heated, the Apprentice star maintains a close off-course friendship with both Annika and Natalie. In fact, Annika and Natalie both played in a LPGA tournament at Trump National Golf Club in Los Angeles last year.
