USA Volleyball Utah Transit Authority and Connor Sport Court Combine to Go Green for Championship Event

Over 400 teams from across the country will converge in Sandy, Utah this week for USA Volleyball's Boys' Junior Olympic Championships. With the thousands of players, coaches and families attending this year's event, many will have to stay at hotels all over the Salt Lake County. Many will be no where near the South Towne Exposition Center, where the competition is being held.

Due to the distance from the hotels to the convention venue, Sport Court and USA Volleyball have teamed up with the Utah Transit Authority to encourage USA Volleyball's volunteers, participants and families to take TRAX light rail instead of driving.

"With our focus towards the environment, we felt this was a great opportunity to promote alternative forms of transportation to the people visiting our beautiful city" said Ron Cerny, president and CEO of Connor Sport Court, International.

"USA Volleyball's staff and participants can ride TRAX directly from downtown and be dropped off almost next door to the South Towne convention center" added Carrie Bohnsack-Ware, UTA spokesperson.

"With USA Volleyball's continuing conservation efforts and our goal of minimizing our impact on the cities we are visiting, we are looking to take advantage of the great public transportation infrastructure here in Salt Lake City. We will be encouraging our participants to take full advantage of UTA's Trax system." said Mike Chandler Director of Events for USA Volleyball

Some 36 playing courts totaling more than 100,000 square feet of Sport Court Response surfacing will see action during the championships.

UTA's TRAX light rail system is currently averaging between 40,000 and 50,000 riders a day along its 15-mile Salt Lake-Sandy line and the 4-mile University Line. UTA is an ISO 14001:2004 9001:2000 certified agency.
