Greenwich Council Adds Bite to Dog Fouling Campaign

Greenwich Council (www.greenwich.gov.uk) officials and community police officers took to the streets to ensure dog owners clean up their act.

Members of the West Greenwich Safer Neighbourhood team were joined by Greenwich Councillors on the Orchard Estate, Greenwich, on Thursday, January 15, to raise awareness of the problem of dog fouling by giving out leaflets and stencilling the pavements with the slogan 'sBag it Bin it's.

And to add bite to the campaign enforcement officers joined the team to hand out fixed penalty notices to blatant offenders at the project last Thursday.

Taking part in the three-hour session at Morden Mount Primary School, Lewisham Road, was Councillor David Grant and Councillor Maureen O'sMara, Greenwich Council'ss Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services.

Councillor O'sMara said:

This is about raising awareness of the problem of dog fouling in the community - and where necessary, issuing fixed penalty notices. Today has been a great success. It is about education, and reminding people about what they can do.

The nine-strong team split into two routes, covering Lewisham Road, Connington Road, Silk Mills Passage, Russett Way, John Penn Street and Coldbath Street. The nearby Coldbath Estate was patrolled by a smaller team the following day, Friday January 16, with more routes planned in the borough in late February.
