Helping Rebuild One Community at a Time

Following the devastating hurricanes that hit our southern states in August and September, CityPeer offered complementary use of their network to any and all communities affected by the storm.

"As of today we have had 28 responses. This is a nice start, but there is much more that can be done," Said Jim Steiger, founder and president of CityPeer. "There are hundreds, even thousands of cities, towns, parishes, villages and counties that will be able to rebuild and even flourish at an accelerated rate when they use our network."

CityPeer built the world's first interactive network to allow cities, towns, villages and counties and the like to collaborate on purchasing, projects and even employees. This ad hoc collaboration afforded by the CityPeer network of communities reduces cost and increases productivity. This functionality becomes even more important when faced with the magnitude of clean-up and rebuilding that our countrymen and women have in the gulf coast states.

Because the Citypeer network gives our public servants the ability to communicate with dozens or even hundreds of their peers in real time, search archives for previous discussion threads on a completely searchable basis, locate and contact communities based on hundreds of criteria it will become an invaluable tool to people trying to rebuild their community. Finding and communicating with communities with a similar set of circumstances on an as needed basis is the foundation of CityPeer.

"We have the ability and a responsibility to help where we can," said, Jim Steiger, founder and president of CityPeer. "I realized that we have an extremely powerful tool for these effected communities. By helping them find the resources that they desperately need, either from other communities, or from companies who can supply them with what they need, our little network of communities could speed up the process many, many times over.

Every key individual in every city, town village, parish and county will be able locate and communicate with their peers in order to share ideas, resources and even materials. They will be able to find other communities that need the same goods and services as they do in order to rebuild. "We have not set an end date for our donated network access, I am sure that they will need it at least through 2006, and we are prepared to offer the service at least that long," said Steiger.

Companies and suppliers that offer goods and services that these communities need are also encouraged to join the CityPeer interactive network of communities. Many communities from all over the country will also want to be able to share whatever they can in order to help. The challenge is daunting and our communities are going to need literally everything imaginable to begin to thrive once more.

Communities will find a hurricane relief/rebuild button on CityPeer's home page (www.citypeer.net ) that will link them to a short form. After verifying all of the information they will receive logon credentials for as many employees as they wish.
