Kontek Industries Lands Major Government Contracts Continues to be...

Kontek Industries announced today that it has been awarded a $15.0 million contract through the Kansas City District Corps of Engineers for the U.S. Air Force's Whiteman Air Force Base. The contract, known as an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) is for the design and construction of "Igloo" weapons storage facilities and additional force protection products. ID/IQs are often used for federal contracts, which do not specify a certain quantity of products but allow for the performance of fulfilling orders during the period of the contract by providing the vendor with a minimum/maximum range of spending.



In addition, Kontek has received a $700,000 contract with Whiteman Air Force Base to be allocated for miscellaneous force protection products to be determined later by Whiteman, a $2.5 million contract by Savannah River National Laboratory to install the company's state-of-the-art critical infrastructure perimeter security protection products, a $2.2 million contract by Fort Leonard Wood to design and build a target firing range and modular classroom, and a $500,000 contract by the U.S. Army's Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland to design and build modular buildings.



These contracts, along with the $20 million dollar Multiple Award Task Order Contracts (MATOC) issued earlier this year by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, increases the available work under government contract to $40 million dollars.

In 2004, Kontek Industries successfully designed and constructed a new bullet-resistant, steel framed guardhouse and ID checkpoints, removable bollards, and smart gate vehicle barriers for Whiteman. The company's proven track record in designing, constructing, and installing complex force protection solutions is now receiving attention from interested parties throughout the country.

These contract awards stem from a last year's $2.4 million research grant from the Department of Defense for blast mitigation and perimeter protection testing and development made to Kontek Industries and its research partner the University of Missouri. This partnership is centered around an interdisciplinary research, design, test, and evaluation team composed of the Rock Mechanics and Explosives Research Center and the Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla, and the Department of Architectural Design and the National Center for Explosion Resistant Design at the University of Missouri-Columbia. The grant was a result of the support of U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson (R-MO )and U.S. Senators, Kit Bond (R-MO) and Jim Talent (R-MO).
