The City of Reedsport, Oregon recently joined the rank of cities like Portland and now offers high speed data service to its business community.
Both City Mayor Keith Tymchuk and City Manager Rick Hohnbaum could see the benefit of high speed fiber optic data for hospitals, schools and Reedsport businesses, and cooperated with and
allowed Newport Oregon'ss CoastCom to use an abandoned water line under Highway 101 to connect the city to LS Networks's high speed fiber optic Ethernet and IP network
We see this as a great success story for Oregon-owned businesses. said Stephen Miller, Justice of the Peace in Reedsport. Many Reedsport companies and government officials came together
to help aid the fiber installations which allows our Schools, churches and businesses to have High Speed Internet and data services Miller said.
We are very happy with the power and reliability we now have said Forrest Bell, Reedsport School District and Superintendent. What once took days now takes minutes to accomplish due to
the speed of the Ethernet and Internet connection. It is exciting to have 21st century technology in a rural community Bell also said.
I am always amazed at how well our community organizations work together to benefit the population we serve! The City of Reedsport, Reedsport School District and the hospital district
were instrumental in the cooperative effort to make this a reality. The whole community will benefit said Sandra Reese, Administrator at Lower Umpqua Hospital.
We are very pleased to work with the City of Reedsport and CoastCom President Greg Palser to continue our growth and expand our network presence within the state. In addition to providing
additional value-add services to Reedsport, we are also providing greater network resiliency with our construction in the Reedsport area Michael Weidman, President and CEO of LS Networks
said.
We are very pleased to be able to provide broadband service to the community of Reedsport, said Greg Palser, President of CoastCom. Our joint ownership fiber projects with the Lower
Umpqua Hospital and the Reedsport School District provide unique opportunities for all the involved parties. The arrangement allows the Hospital and School District to received greatly
needed connectivity between their facilities and allows CoastCom the opportunity to expand their fiber footprint to other areas in the community. This Public/Private partnership was truly
a win-win situation for all involved and gives other business and government entities more flexibility in their telecommunication needs. Another important piece to this puzzle was the
commitment from LS Networks to provide the connection to their statewide network, without their involvement this service would not have been possible.
