The Ultimate Asperger Syndrome Handbook Everything You Need to Know...

After five long years of writing and waiting, the book she wished she had 10 years ago -- The Mom'ss Guide to Asperger Syndrome (Johnston-Tyler, 2007, AAPC) -- has finally been released, and Jan Johnston-Tyler, the book'ss author, couldn'st be more thrilled.

I wrote this book because there is nothing like it out there -- nothing that guides a parent or caregiver from wondering if there is something different with their child, through diagnosis, securing services, dealing with bullies, working with teachers and special aides, and what to do at home -- the soup to nuts guide on how to parent these wonderful kids, Johnston-Tyler stated. I'sm so excited that the parents and educators who really need this information can now access what I'sve accumulated for over a decade.

The book is written in a handbook style, intended to be referred to again and again. It contains checklists, sample letters, tables with suggested interventions for such varied issues as fidgeting and forgetting homework.

Although primarily targeted at elementary school issues, the book contains information and advice that is applicable to all age ranges, such as if, when, and how to disclose Asperger Syndrome and to whom, a section describing the different people who will become part of the 'sTeam of Experts's and will work with AS individuals throughout school, and several tables describing the various tests used to assess the level and type of disability a child may face -- including information on which tests may be of no use to an Asperger child, and should be avoided.

Written in easy-to-understand language and presented in a easy-to-access format, this book should be one of the first that any parent buys when facing the diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome, High-Functioning Autism, Non-Verbal Learning Disorder, or any related disorder.

The Mom'ss Guide to Asperger Syndrome is currently available from the publisher (AAPC) at www.asperger.net and will be available through distributors and bookstores in the coming weeks.
