Young Author Presents Book to Governor Granholm

April 30, 2005 -- Elizabeth Olauson age eight has an experience of a lifetime. Her teacher Mrs. Robyn Galloway told her that she was an ambassador for her school and represented all the boys and girls and their amazing ability to be great writers. Mrs. Galloway shared with her students that they all could write a book like Elizabeth because when she reads their writing pieces it gives her chills and that is what good writers do for their audience.

Elizabeth had the amazing opportunity to meet Governor Granholm while she was visiting Hillsdale. Elizabeth presented the governor with her book "Elizabeth Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies" and a batch of her cookies. Mrs. Granholm told her it was one of the nicest gifts she has received since becoming governor.

She asked Elizabeth why she wrote the book and Elizabeth explained to her "because she wanted families to come back to the kitchen and to spend special time together and baking is one way to do that." She gave Elizabeth a hug and told her she was so proud of her for her work and accomplishments at such a young age.

She also paged through the book and noticed that Elizabeth had cursive wrote her special message to the governor and she was very impressed. She told Elizabeth she had beautiful handwriting.

Elizabeth's cookies were a great hit also. She asked Elizabeth if she could share with her friends and Elizabeth told her yes. She said she could not eat them all herself. Elizabeth was okay with that. When the governor had to hand them over for the rest of her visit to one of her assistant's, Lewis. She wanted him to understand that they belonged to her and that he was not to eat them, she joked with him several times before handing over the basket. She asked Elizabeth if they were the best cookies ever and Elizabeth answered yes.

Elizabeth at first did not understand the importance of this special opportunity but after meeting the delightful governor she was very glad she did. She explained to her classmates how nice Mrs. Granholm was and how she is the leader of our state like President Bush is the leader of the country. This truly will not be a day forgotten in this eight year olds life.

Elizabeth and family got to have her their picture taken with her before saying there their good-byes.
