Peer DRS can be configured to handle almost any type of backup scenario, which is simplified by its intuitive configuration wizard and management GUI. Moreover, it is not necessary to run Peer DRS on the same server as the primary database or target Exchange servers. Peer DRS automates the replication of databases and incremental changes on a primary server, which are then restored onto one or more target standby servers. Transaction logs are automatically backed up throughout the day (for whatever interval specified), which are then automatically restored on a standby server located anywhere in the world. This keeps the two Databases in "synch"; should the production server fail, users simply have to point the users/applications to the new server and perform a database "role reversal."
Peer DRS 1.2 gives users expanded flexibility by allowing for the configuration of backup jobs on a per storage group basis with different configurations and schedules; administrators can receive alert emails if connection to a primary database cannot be established or if a backup or restore has not occurred within a configurable period of time threshold; and they can view replication activity from a single control panel allowing for the easy identification of errors.
"Peer DRS was developed to allow customers to manage the backup of SQL and Exchange from one application code set and GUI. Now, administrators can replicate an organization's SQL databases and MS Exchange data, wherever they may reside," said Paul Marsala, President of Peer Software. "In sum, Peer DRS consolidates two otherwise disparate and cumbersome chores-securing SQL and Exchange data-within a single framework that can be managed from any location. As with all Peer solutions, once its configured, Peer DRS requires nominal, hassle-free administration."
Key Peer DRS for Exchange Features:
- Ability to perform scheduled up-to-the-minute incremental backups or continuous capture (whenever Exchange log files are closed) of Exchange data, metadata, and context, including all email, folders, deletions, calendars, contacts, notes, tasks, and more.
- Protects against data loss and allows local recovery of Exchange information stores, mailboxes and disaster recovery of Exchange data to a standby Exchange Server.
- Ability to perform on-demand recovery from latest snapshot of primary storage group to the target Exchange server for failover or other recovery purposes.
- Guaranteed Exchange consistent backups. Checksums for all database pages are performed during backup and alerts will be sent if any errors occur.
