The White Rose Polo Club is Now Officially the Fastest Growing Polo Club in the North of England

Launched in early 2007, White Rose Polo Club was founded as a members's club by local businessman, Hedley Aylott in the beautiful surroundings of Townend Farm, North Cliffe. The club is provisionally HPA affiliated and aims to provide a friendly, relaxed atmosphere in which all standards of polo player incouding complete beginners are encouraged to enjoy and improve their polo.

Members have the benefit of a full size polo ground, two stick and ball pitches, a 60m x 30m all weather arena, a horse walker, wooden horse and first class stabling for up to 30 ponies. The Club offers full livery, stabling and schooling as well as the opportunity for riders to hire ponies for lessons, chukkas and polo tournaments. Courses are run for the Pony Club and schools. One young student recently, on catching sight of the polo grounds for the first time was heard to exclaim Oh wow, it'ss absolutely gorgeous!

Founded only a few months ago, White Rose Polo Club already has 30 members and membership is growing all the time.

Prior to the season starting, we took a number of teams to play in away tournaments and had the privilege of Henry Brett, captain of the England Polo team, spending a Saturday in April, at the club, holding a polo clinic for the day. Sixteen lucky club members received a day of instruction covering subjects ranging from pre-riding tack and pony checks, riding, hitting and tactics. The day culminated in constructional chukkas and the opportunity for a question and answer session over a cooling glass of wine.

The club is involved in promoting schools and university polo in the region with increasing success, teaching children and students from the age of 6 to 18 years. York University and Leeds University are already regular visitors to the club.

In partnership with hotels in the region and as members of the Yorkshire Tourist Board, the club aims to bring polo right to the heart of tourism in Yorkshire.

Our HPA qualified coach from New Zealand, is currently training three complete amateurs to compete in the Pro-am match at Beverley in June.

Preparations are currently under way for our annual blue ribbon polo tournament, The Summit Cup, sponsored by Summit Media Ltd. This takes place over the weekend of 21 and 22 July 2007. This marvellous two day tournament is open to the public, who are warmly invited to bring a picnic and enjoy an afternoon of Polo, Pimms and to try their hand at 'streading in's between chukkas. Alternatively a fabulous gourmet polo lunch and afternoon tea is also available to book and is held in the Summit Enclosure.

Asked what he attributed the tremendous success of the club to, Chairman and founder Hedley Aylott said the progress and success of the club has exceeded all expectations and is largely down to the support, loyalty and hard work of the members. The Club continues to go from strength to strength to strength and we have many more ideas for development in the future. Polo is a game for all levels of ability and in such a friendly club as White Rose, everyone has the opportunity to progress at their own pace, with full support from the other members.
