May 12, 2005 -- The National Council on Strength and Fitness Board for Certification has received national accreditation of its certification program for personal trainers. The National
Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) issued accreditation to the credentialing body for certified personal trainers on May 8, 2005.
The NCCA is the accrediting body for professional certification programs under the National Organization for Competency Assurance in Washington D.C. Other occupations regulated by the
NCCA accreditation include Registered Dietitians, Occupational Therapists, and Nurse Practioners. The accreditation acknowledges a standardized level of competency which now provides
legal defensibility for Personal Trainers and provides protection for consumers of their services.
Individuals hiring personal trainers can now identify if they have earned a regulated credential which will help ensure they receive quality and professional services. The NCSF
organization offers credential verification and an electronic complaint filing system for individuals hiring or working with an NCSF certified personal trainer. These services allow
consumers to determine the validity of the trainers' qualifications before hiring and provide assistance if a complaint with the services or actions of the certified personal trainer
needs to be filed. Anyone looking to hire a personal trainer should ask for the trainer's certification number and check to see that the credential is valid and up-to-date.
The National Council on Strength and Fitness (NCSF) is a member-driven organization providing support services, educational programs, public outreach and professional credentialing for
the Personal Training profession. As a leading authority in the health and fitness industry, the mission of the NCSF is to serve both the interests of the Personal Training profession as
well as that of the general public.
