Smokefree Jazz and Funk Dance Lounge to Raise Money for Climb for Cancer...

May 13, 2005 -- TC's Smoke-free Jazz and Funk Dance Lounge announces its grand opening event on Friday, June 10 to benefit the Climb for Cancer Foundation.

This private theme party will open with a 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Happy Hour, followed by dancing from 8:30 p.m. until close at 12 a.m. There will be a $15 cover at the door, of which $5 will be donated to Climb for Cancer. Special guests for the evening will include the Jacksonville funk band Beam and jazz pianist Zac Chester. In addition to musical guests, there will be appetizers, fine wine, specialty drinks and much more. TC's Lounge is located inside Steve's Caf Americain at 12 West University Avenue in Gainesville, FL.

Terry Chester, President and CEO of Adbiz and himself a cancer survivor, is the brainchild behind TC's Lounge. "I noticed there was no place to dance in Gainesville that wasn't a smoke-filled room. I got to thinking that maybe I could sponsor an event for people who enjoy dancing without the risks of second-hand smoke and help build awareness for Climb for Cancer. I can't think of a better way to support them than to throw a party. As a cancer survivor, I've learned that life is precious. What better way to celebrate that than to raise funds and awareness for those suffering from this dreadful disease."

The Climb for Cancer Foundation, created by Ron and Dianne Farb, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for the research and development of new cancer treatments. In addition, the Foundation provides other services, including lodging at the Ronald McDonald House for families of cancer patients that must travel for proper treatment and a camp for children with cancer. "We like to think that our small gifts fill in the cracks left by organizations that make much larger gifts," Dianne Farb says. "This is a terrific event, so come out and enjoy a 'funky night,' celebrate Ron's return from Mount Everest, and help the Climb for Cancer Foundation make a tangible impact on the lives of those affected by cancer." Terry Chester is a former board member of the local chapter of the American Cancer Society and Stop! Children's Cancer, a member of Rotary International, and CEO of Adbiz, an international marketing communications and advertising company.
