August 3, 2006 -- In just a few weeks, Shannen Eis of Vancouver BC will join thousands of dedicated women and men in Vancouver, August 18-20, 2006, to walk 60 kilometres over two days.
She is offering fresh hope to cancer victims by participating in The Weekend to End Breast Cancer benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation.
Shannen will raise considerable money and awareness by pounding the pavement and participating in this weekend-long event for the BC Cancer Foundation.
With one in nine Canadian women diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, participants in The Weekend to End Breast Cancer have the opportunity to personally make a difference in the
fight against breast cancer, and collectively, participants have an enormous impact on breast cancer research funding in the province.
Personal Motivation:
Shannen joins The Weekend to End Breast Cancer benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation, because she is young, healthy and active. Already a volunteer Aquafit instructor at the YWCA downtown
she needed another challenge and another way to help others in need. The Weekend to End Breast Cancer was the perfect solution 's8211; a 60km walk to provide a physical challenge, and the
motivation to raise over $4000 to help the BC Cancer Agency. Shannen'ss family has had conciderable impact from Breast Cancer and other forms of this devistating disease. With a personal
family member being diagnosed with breast cancer in July 2006 this disease has more than hit home for this walker. To help raise funds Shannen held a 's8220;Burgers for Boobs's8221;
fundraiser event at the Lennox Pub. This event raised over $1000 through food sales, a 50 /50 draw and a Silent Auction. Shannen is also planning a final Car Wash Fundraiser for a weekend
in August to help her raise the last few dollars she needs to reach her goal. For greater impact, Shannen, (walker number 301925-2) also displays her training progress on her own
's8220;Blog.'s8221; To help her reach this goal, visit www.endcancer.ca to make a donation online or call (604) 684-WALK (9255).

Breast Cancer in Vancouver launches with Opening Ceremonies on the morning of Saturday, August 19, and finishes with hope-filled, afternoon Closing Ceremonies, Sunday, August 20.
Thousands of Walkers will cover approximately 30 kilometres a day, traveling at their own pace. Walkers will be supported by some 500 Volunteers and Crew Members who will provide meals,
water and snack stops, gear transport, portable restrooms, safety on the streets, comprehensive medical services and an overnight campsite complete with tents and hot showers.
