HealthDataInsights Awarded New Medicaid Contract

HealthDataInsights ('s8220;HDI's8221;), a leading provider of medical claims overpayment identification and recoupment services, announced today that it was recently awarded a major federal contract by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ('s8220;CMS's8221;).

On the heels of a highly competitive, nationwide RFP process, HealthDataInsights was selected as the federal Medicaid Payment Error Rate Measurement (PERM) review contractor by CMS, which administers the federal Medicare and Medicaid programs nationwide.The purpose of the CMS PERM project is to produce a national level error rate for the Medicaid Fee-For-Service program.

Under the Improper Payments Information Act of 2002, CMS and other federal executive agencies are mandated to review all programs and activities annually, identify those that may be susceptible to significant improper payments, estimate the amount of those improper payments, and report the results to Congress. State and federal Medicaid outlays in CMS fiscal year 2005 totaled more than $300 billion.2006 marks the first year in which CMS has employed a federal review contractor, HealthDataInsights, to analyze and evaluate the Medicaid payment error rate through a nationwide sample of Medicaid claims. HDI recently commenced work on Medicaid claims in the first 17 states selected for review.

Work performed by HDI under the PERM contract will include analyzing Medicaid fee-for-service claims to determine whether they were coded, documented and processed correctly; whether they were medically necessary; and whether they were properly paid or denied. HDI will then work with the review states to reprice the incorrectly paid or denied claims.

's8220;This is another significant milestone in HDI's8217;s development, building upon our expertise in analyzing both public and private healthcare claims for error, fraud, and/ or abuse,'s8221; said Victor Chaltiel, Chairman of the Board of HealthDataInsights. 's8220;Our foremost goal in this effort is to help our nation improve the accuracy of payment in its Medicaid claims, and this multi-year project will afford us ample opportunity.'s8221;

Andrea Benko, President of HDI, declared: 's8220;HDI is pleased that CMS has recognized HDI's8217;s unmatched track record, skill and expertise in providing cost-effective, accurate healthcare claim reviews for public and private payors. HDI looks forward to working closely with CMS and the review states throughout the PERM project, and fulfilling the opportunity to play a major role in developing the first national level error rate for the Medicaid program.'s8221;
