Northeast Center for Special Care Serves New York State Respiratory...



Kingston, NY, as a part of its continuing commitment to the education of respiratory professionals in New York State.


Lake Katrine, NY August 20, 2007 -- Northeast Center for Special Care, a nationally known ventilator and respiratory program recognized for its successful outcomes in weaning individuals from mechanical ventilators and community reintegration for people with complex respiratory and pulmonary conditions, presented its 3rd Annual Mid-Hudson Respiratory Conference as a part of the Center's continuing commitment to the education of respiratory professionals in New York State.



The conference was held on August 9, 2007 in Historic Kingston, NY. Ninety respiratory therapists from the Mid-Hudson Valley and throughout New York State were in attendance and a total of 540 continuing education credits (CEU's), sanctioned by the American Association for Respiratory Care, were awarded.



Ann Belcher, CEO of Northeast Center for Special Care said:"Our third annual conference presented best practices in the areas of respiratory care and cardio-pulmonary rehabilitation."



The conference agenda included: Opening Comments by Catherine Sullivan, MBA, RT, RRT-NPS, RPFT, Directory of Respiratory Care/EEG/Sleep Center, Nyack Hospital, President NYSSRC, BIVENT an Alternative Method for Ventilation in Neonates and Pediatrics by Marc Leaderstorf, RRT, NP, Critical Care and Transport Coordinator for Respiratory Care, Women & Children's Hospital, Buffalo, NY, Diagnosis and Treatment of Childhood Asthma: The Cold and Flu Season A Simulated Interactive Case Study by Steve Jones, MS, RNC, PNP, ET, Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist/NP, Albany Medical Center, Organ Donation After Cardiac Death by Joselito Nuqui, BS, Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC), Senior Organ Procurement Coordinator, Albany Medical Center, Tracheostomy: Matching Product to Patient Need by Thomas J. Wortham BA, RRT, Senior Tracheostomy Specialist with Smith's Medical ASD, Inc., NAVA Ventilation by Tina Wellman, RRT, Clinical Education Specialist, Maquet, Inc., Transition to Long Term Care of the Mechanically Ventilated Patient by Alicia Fredella, RRT, CBIT.



Thomas Harvie, RRT/CPFT, Ventilator Care Program Director at Northeast Center for Special Care, led the planning committee for the conference. Mr. Harvie has been a Respiratory Care professional for fifteen years, and in March of 2007 he received the President's Recognition Award from the Northeast Chapter of the New York State Society for Respiratory Care.



Ann Belcher also stated: "Northeast Center maintains a strong commitment to the continuing education of Respiratory Professionals and presenting clinical information with evidence-based practice experiences that we are noted for."
