The Speech and Literacy Center is looking for subjects to help provide normative data for the revision to The Listening Test, published by Linguisystems.
Participants will be asked to listen to short paragraphs and then will be asked questions regarding the information in the material read to them. Total testing time averages one hour or
less. Subjects should be at least six years old but not older than eleven, and enrolled in a regular or special education setting.
Regular Education Criteria
This child is:
enrolled in regular education classes
has no active IEP
can be enrolled in speech therapy with a current IEP for voice, fluency, or articulation only
can be enrolled in Title 1 or Reading Recovery programs
Special Education Criteria
This child is:
enrolled full or part time in a special education classroom with a current IEP for special education instruction.
has a learning, attention, emotional or behavioral disability as the primary diagnosis
does NOT have a language disability as the primary diagnosis
can engage in the testing task. Subjects with Autism Spectrum or Emotional/Behavioral Disability disorders must be able to respond verbally.
If one or more exists, a child is NOT eligible:
he has any degree of hearing loss
he has limited English proficiency. English must be the primary language used at school.
he is enrolled in an ESL class
he resides outside of the United States
he attends school outside of the United States, e.g., Department of Defense schools
Linguisytems is conducting this 600 subject study to determine which items are age progressive and which items should be thrown out of the standardized version of this test. The study
dates will be open from October 17th to December 16th.
Sheila Baranski, M.H.S.-CCC-SLP will be administering this study, pointing out that this is "a unique opportunity for us to have a hand in shaping this test; our results combined with the
results of other therapists nationwide will determine the norms for this test."
