Scrapbooking Event in Westchester County New York

According to Primedia Scrapbooking, the company which offers three of the leading scrapbook and paper publications such as Creating Keepsakes and Simple Scrapbooks, the hobby of scrapbooking has grown to become a vibrant industry with sales close to $2.5 billion in 2004. Professionals are predicting that retail sales of scrapbooking products could zoom to about $4 billion in 2005. Try searching the web for scrapbooking products and you will find hundreds of scrapbook supplies stores all over the internet. Here in Westchester County, New York, scrapbook materials are being sold in party stores, office stores, stationary stores and even supermarkets.



The hobby of scrapbooking can be traced to the states in the west, such as Utah. It has taken a little while but finally, scrapbooking is now becoming more and more popular on the east coast. Scrapbookers in the west have the opportunity to participate in crops. A crop has been referred to something like a quilting bee in which hobbyists come together to scrapbook. Some crops are set up as an all day affair, others are offered as retreats or vacations. These traditions have been to slow to catch on but Showcase Your Memories is bringing the world of cropping to Westester, NY.



Showcase Your Memories, which began in 2004 by Leslie Archambault, has organized an all day crop for Sunday, September 18th. But waitThis event is not just a crop - it is also a fundraiser to raise money for a therapeutic scrapbooking program for the patients and families at the children's hospital.



The creative art of scrapbooking provides individuals with the opportunity to experience and respond to specific moments in new ways. Time spent looking at photographs, journaling, and working with different types of media, can be helpful in processing and working through all types of feelings. This creative process can be extremley helpful to those who are or have encountered stressful situations.



The role of a Reflective Scrapbooking program in a children's hospital is to provide a non threatening opportunity for children and parents to express their feelings about their experiences. Scrapbooks can include photos and journaling about their illness, treatments, hospital stays, doctors, and most importantly feelings. We will be working on developing a pilot program for the NICU department of the hospital. Parents of premature infants will be able to create scrapbooks of their journey in the NICU.
