Rare Authenticated 192930 Chick Hafey Jersey Highlights Huggins Scott Sports Memorabilia Auction

Fresh off a record-setting $2.4 million event in October of 2007, Huggins & Scott Auctions completed preparations for a new major sports memorabilia catalog auction that began March 17th. The Maryland-based company is offering 1,384 consigned lots of vintage and modern sports cards and memorabilia in the two-day Masterpiece Auction ending April 2nd and April 3rd. The bidding is being conducted by phone and Internet via the company's online auction site (http://www.hugginsandscott.com).

The highlight of the auction - one which should stir the interest of game-worn jersey collectors as well as legions of St. Louis Cardinals fans and hobbyists - is a Chick Hafey game-used Cardinals' home jersey dating from the 1929 or 1930 season. Hafey was a hard-hitting outfielder elected to Baseball's Hall of Fame in 1971.

Manufactured by Sainz, the button-down flannel reveals moderate to heavy game usage. The embroidered team lettering is vibrant and intact, while the unnumbered back conceals a lightly stitched "Hafey" team identification tag on the tail. The jersey has been graded and authenticated by Memorabilia Evaluation and Research Services, a highly respected sports memorabilia authenticator.

"Vintage game used jerseys are scarce. But having a Hall of Famer from the pre-World War II era of baseball is really special for us. It will be the highlight of someone's collection," said Josh Wulkan, Vice President of Auction Operations.

Other spotlighted sports memorabilia auction (http://www.hugginsandscott.com) items include:

- Collection of Ty Cobb personal hand-written letters and autographs.

- 1929 New York Yankees team signed ball featuring Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.

- Autographed Lou Gehrig black and white photograph, 7x9".

- 1930 Notre Dame autographed football featuring Knute Rockne's signature.

- T207 Buck Weaver with the Broadleaf tobacco ad on the back - graded 50 by Sportscard Guaranty Corporation.

- T3 Turkey Red Cy Young graded SGC 60.

- 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card with a PSA 4 grading.

- Complete 1972 Topps football set ranked #3 on the PSA Set Registry. The set has an overall rating of 8.63.

- A selection of regional meat issues of Esskay and Briggs cards.

Huggins & Scott's rapid growth has prompted them to increase the annual frequency of its catalog auctions from two to four beginning in 2008. In addition, the online bidding process at Huggins & Scott's website (http://www.hugginsandscott.com/cgi-bin/showitem.plitemid=7866)allows hobbyists to follow the progress of their highlighted items.

"We should be the talk of the industry this summer," Wulkan said. "We just uncovered an incredible 275-card high-grade 1914 and 1915 Cracker Jack baseball card collection as well as an unbelievable group of items from a preeminent Philadelphia Phillies memorabilia collector that will be featured in our July and October auctions."
