"Powder rooms, also referred to as half bathrooms, are increasingly being used to showcase progressive interior design and home decor trends in many Boston homes," said Andie Day. "They're a great canvas to experiment with colors and other bold interior design and decor elements that homeowners may not want to use in larger living spaces in the home, such as the living room or bedroom."
Guests view powder rooms privately; therefore they take more time to study the details of the interior design and decor. To grab guests' attention immediately, Andie Day chose Le Poete by Marc Chagall to use as the focal point for her recent Boston powder room project. The painting also inspired the selection of many of the other interior design and decor elements used in the room. Recognized as one of the most significant painters and graphic artists of the 20th century, Chagall's imagery combines folklore, fantasy, poetic inspiration and distinctive use of form and color.
"I wanted that dreamy feeling of another place and another time to envelop the homeowner from all directions when they walked into the room," said Day. "My vision was for the bathroom, which had not been updated for more than 100 years, to really feel like a restoration and a recreation of times past -- an Arts and Crafts renovation."
Andie Day has restored and renovated rooms for many homeowners throughout the Boston area. Recognized as one of the city's leading interior design ers and home dcor experts, she has a well-earned reputation for her imaginative planning, technical expertise and artistic vision. To retain the small space feel of an old world powder room in her recent interior design project, Andie Day used substantial crown, incorporating a large decorative frieze with a leaf vine molding in the room. Other elements integrated into the interior design and decor included multi-colored slate tile blended with onyx pieces; Bradbury and Bradbury, Morris Tradition wallpaper; and uniquely styled cabinetry with Inca Brass finishes. The result was a dramatic, yet timeless room that will leave a lasting impression on the homeowner's guests.
