Take Bathing to the Next Level a Warm Feeling
May 19, 2005 -- Teak Tub America, Inc. today announced their grand opening in Long Beach, California. The two Danish native owners, Peter Rasborg and Erik Nilsson are excited to introduce the century old cooperage workmanship to the American public. The company imports unique hand made indoor bath tubs and matching vanities all made from farmed teak.
The opening coincides with the 200 year anniversary of the Danish poet Hans Christian Andersen and as a tribute all products are named after his famous fairytales, Nilsson said.
The entire product line is hand crafted by Teak Tub in Herning, Denmark. The method used is modern technology combined with the ancient wood crafting method known as cooperage; which has been used for many generations manufacturing wine casks and barrels.
Teak is the ideal type of wood for tubs. "It will outlast you and me and then some", Nilsson explained in a recent interview.
Teak contains natural oil and is therefore extremely stable. Ash, oak and acacia have some of the same properties and can be used, but they can turn dark because they do not have the high oil contents and can dry out.
The Teak Tubs are assembled like they have been for centuries. After an almost 6 month hiatus in a dry kiln that achieves the very low moisture contents of only 9-10%,
the teak is meticulously cut into staves. The staves are carefully set up around the bottom and held together by band irons in either stainless steel or brass.
The teak staves are assembled without glue and are held together only by using brass or stainless steel bands. The only adhesive is an invisible rubber substance commonly used in the boat building industry. Each of the solid teak staves are locked together in a patented inter-locking system. This production method combined with the high natural oil content of
the teak wood has proved to be superior and will prevent the tub from leaking and drying out.
We are looking for distributors nationwide, Nilsson said and welcomes any inquiries via e-mail: e-mail protected from spam bots. If you would like to see how to take your bathing experience to the next level go to: www.teaktubamerica.com
