NYKB Remodels New York Citys Coolest Upscale Soul Kitchen

Lesly Bernard'ss joint had a key location on W. 26th St and the best Monte Cristo sandwiches in Manhattan, but something crucial to Tillman'ss Bar & Lounge was not cutting it; the interior of his business needed a top-to-bottom overhaul in order to meet the mood of his sophisticated clientele. For a makeover Bernard wasted no time in calling NYKB (New York Kitchen & Bath), the renowned kitchen and bath masters. Bernard charged NYKB with creating a welcome atmosphere that could marry the smoky flavor of Harlem'ss treasured jazz scene with a contemporary twist.



NYKB'ss talented designers took Bernard'ss vision to heart and headed straight to the bar - to work. The team deftly installed a system of indirect lighting that softly illuminates the bar space, thus letting light play off of bar mirrors and glass shelves. The result Pleasing shards of subdued sparkle, just another gem of expertise and creativity from NYKB'ss team of designers.



Perry Hiiman, President of NYKB, gave an overview of the Tillman'ss project this way: we gave the eye something to drink while a person is listening to great music or talking with friends.



The establishment itself is divided into two rooms which are partitioned with glass. This allows night owls to have a cocktail while enjoying a larger sense of place, but without having to be in a big room.



NYKB is a renowned one-stop remodeling firm, popular with busy New Yorkers who do not have the time to micromanage whole renovations on their apartments or brownstones. The word-of-mouth buzz NYKB stems from years of the repeated demonstration of mastery in all phases of renovation. Hiiman says simply, we were propelled to the top by the faith customers have in our talented designers and craftsmen. There are no short cuts to excellence.    




This success has been garnered one dwelling at a time, but by no means is NYKB limited to the bathroom, kitchen, or even residence. This project serves as a public showcase for NYKB'ss talent. I love the idea of people seeing Tillman'ss exquisite interiors and saying, 'swow! I thought they only did bathrooms!'s, said Hiiman.



And speaking of bathrooms, NYKB used vessel sinks and corresponding faucets for an elegant, upscale touch in the establishment'ss restrooms. Quality sound-proofing serves to make the restrooms a respite from the lounge. With creativity like NYKB'ss, there are limitless ways to get away from it all - even while being in the middle of it all in Manhattan.



NYKB meets the challenge of creating privacy without isolation through ample use of S shaped banquettes. This comfortable seating appears to be built in, but, in fact, is movable. This way space can be made for the live music acts, for which Tillman'ss is known, or for the accommodation of private parties.
