MediSend Internationalis First to Offer a Comprehensive Biomedical Training Program Designed Specifically for Developing Coun

In developing countries, even basic biomedical equipment can mean the difference between life and death. An X-ray machine can ensure that broken bones heal rather than cripple. An ultrasound machine can be the difference between a mother's unbearable grief at losing her child or the joy of having a healthy newborn placed in her arms. Tragically, a lack of trained personnel means this life saving equipment is often unused.

MediSend International is the first global organization to offer a comprehensive solution to these problems with its innovative Biomedical Repair Training Program, designed specifically to meet the needs and challenges of hospitals in developing countries. The intensive curriculum and training model were created in direct response to the worldwide lack of skilled biomedical technicians.

Twelve students from Africa are currently learning life-saving skills in MediSend International's Biomedical Training Program. The nine men and three women from Angola and Nigeria, all sponsored by the ExxonMobil Foundation as part of the ExxonMobil Africa Health Initiative, will return to their home countries as qualified biomedical technicians trained on a complete range of biomedical equipment typically found in developing country hospital environments. The trainees will spend six months taking courses in the first comprehensive, performance-based biomedical training curriculum for developing countries that meets US/BMET standards in biomedical technologies.

MediSend's biomedical training laboratory and classrooms are located in the Elisabeth Dahan Humanitarian Center, MediSend's global headquarters in Dallas, Texas. The 75,000 square foot center was donated by retired ExxonMobil executive Rene Dahan and his wife, Elisabeth. Medisend's state-of-the-art biomedical training laboratory offers trainees the opportunity of hands-on experience with a complete inventory of biomedical equipment in one of the nation's largest and best equipped biomedical training laboratories.
