AirMed International airmed.com (http://www.airmed.com) took home top international honors for the second consecutive year, winning the prestigious Air Ambulance of the Year Award at the 16th annual ITIJ Awards Ceremony.
To be recognized by our industry for the second year in a row is unprecedented, said Jeffrey Tolbert, President and CEO of AirMed International. All of us at AirMed remain committed to
the highest level of patient transportation and care, and we are deeply honored and humbled by this award. Birmingham, Alabama-based AirMed International was the only U.S. finalist for
the award, competing against two Canadian air ambulance companies.
The awards were presented by Bristol, England'ss Voyageur Group publication International Travel Insurance Journal (ITIJ) and were held this year at their annual conference in Budapest.
The ITIJ Awards represent the finest in the air medical fields as well as insurance underwriters, assistance companies and cost containment providers. Judging for the awards is performed
by an impartial panel of experts in the global travel insurance and medical transport industries, but nominations came from the 20,000+ readers of the magazine.
AirMed'ss list of achievements in 2008 were many and included selection as the fixed-wing operator for the Cleveland Clinic which is consistently ranked as one of the best hospitals in
America. AirMed now manages both the critical care transport and the organ procurement programs for Cleveland Clinic. Further, AirMed increased its fleet by more than 80% and was the
first air ambulance company to open a base in Asia, setting up operations in Hong Kong in early 2008.
