May 15, 2005 -- StarGazers Inn & Observatory, a casually elegant Bed & Breakfast nestled amidst the peaceful pines of the San Bernardino National Forest, offers a unique viewpoint of the stars unparalleled by any other Southern California B&B. Located at 6800 feet in the four-season alpine resort of Big Bear Lake, this intimately comfortable lodge is flush with every imaginable amenity, including an indoor heated swimming pool and sauna in a beautiful knotty pine room with picture windows overlooking the pines.

Innkeeper, Doreen Wiggins, though always interested in astronomy, never found time to pursue it, says "When I was conceptualizing the inn, I decided to give myself and my guests the opportunity to enjoy Big Bear's wonderful dark skies by building a small private observatory and offering guests Star Parties as part of their stay."

A knowledgeable star guide assists guests with binoculars and telescopes, including the 11" Schmidt Cassegrain. Guests are then led on a "star search" and discover the birthplace of stars, view stars in a variety of evolutionary stages from star clouds to Super Nova remnants, and take an imaginary journey into a black hole. StarGazers Inn also hosts the Big Bear Valley Astronomical Society and is a member of NASA/JPLs Night Sky Network.

Wiggins wanted to create a stellar atmosphere in the inn as well. There are five creatively appointed bedrooms, with dcor of vibrant colors and the graphic night sky images from the Hubble Space Telescope, and views of the towering evergreens surrounding the acre estate. Room amenities include queen featherbeds with down bedding, gas fireplaces, private baths with candlelit jacuzzi tubs, luxurious terry guest robes, slippers, sauna wraps, and complimentary bubble bath and aromatic bath oils. Each room has a television with DVD/VCR and phone with data port. Free wireless internet is also available.

Every morning guests awaken to the aroma of a generous breakfast of homemade specialties and cappuccino/espresso bar served in the informal dining room. Wine and light appetizers are served in the afternoon social hour. A 24-hour refreshment center provides guests with home-baked cookies and an assortment of snacks and beverages. Outside, three decks overlook the natural xeriscape gardens and offer great views of the night skies, the surrounding mountains and area birds and wildlife.
