The Grand Canyon has been revered as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World (http://sevennaturalwonders.org) for several decades amazing visitors who stand in awe and wonder as they take in the various spectacular views. But now, the New7Wonders Foundation, a Switzerland based group, wants to change that.
In 1999, New7Wonders began a global campaign to establish a new - seven wonders of the world - list that recognized the marvels of mankind. The pyramids of Egypt are the only original
wonder that remains today, but even this wonder was originally excluded from the New7Wonders list of wonders until having an honorary member status declared as a result of backlash from
the global community. Now amidst the controversy, they are at it again seeking to change the natural wonders. However, in contrast to their man-made cousins, these wonders are all still
in existence.
To combat the efforts of the New7Wonders campaign, Phillip Imler, Ph.D., launched Seven Natural Wonders, a grassroots global endeavor committed to preserving the original Seven Natural
Wonders of the World by raising awareness of the move against them and advocating for their timeless beauty and amazement. The Grand Canyon (http://sevennaturalwonders.org/the-original/grand-canyon) will always be one of the natural wonders of the world.
The original vision and declaration combined with the natural grandeur of the original wonders must be honored and protected, said Imler. He adds, It is fair to question how they were
established, but it'ss not fair for any group to assume the authority of changing them.
As a newly founded grassroots endeavor, Seven Natural Wonders (http://sevennaturalwonders.org) has already secured support and participation
from approximately 50 countries. While committed to protecting the original wonders, Seven Natural Wonders is also working with a tremendous group of experts to establish the seven
natural wonders for each continent.
As this endeavor to protect the original wonders unfolded, Imler stated, It was imperative to acknowledge that this world offers many spectacular natural wonders that also deserve their
appropriate recognition.
The original seven natural wonders include:
* Aurora Lights
* Great Barrier Reef
* Grand Canyon
* Harbor of Rio de Janeiro
* Mount Everest
* Paricutin Volcano
* Victoria Falls
Seven Natural Wonders is working collectively with the global community and experts from around the world to determine which natural wonders should be distinguished as part of the Seven
Natural Wonders for each continent. This global campaign serves as a great platform for individuals to learn and explore more of the natural wonders of the world.
