Parkson Corporation Goes Beyond Caring for the Environment



Parkson Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Axel Johnson Inc., takes its role as an environmental company a step further and is launching a Giving Campaign amongst its employees.

For more than 40 years, Parkson has been designing engineering solutions to treat water and wastewater, fundamental to maintaining quality of life and securing the environment. In addition to Parkson'ss contributions to the environment, Parkson employees also have repeatedly and willingly demonstrated their commitment to local communities and to the world as a whole through participation in many causes that range from a local March of Dimes to the building of a wastewater plant during the tsunami in Thailand. However, these significant efforts and caring attitudes were largely informal.

In September 2008, a cross-functional team was created at Parkson to explore the opportunity to formalize a giving program for the company. As a company focused on water and the environment, Parkson looked for organizations that help local communities with water need and education. Based on the recommendations, three philanthropies were selected as the official Parkson 2009 organizations. In November 2008, Parkson Corporation will officially take a pledge and commit their efforts to the following organizations:

Water for People: Water For People helps people in developing countries improve their quality of life by supporting the development of locally sustainable drinking water resources, sanitation facilities and health and hygiene education programs. www.waterforpeople.org

American Red Cross: The mission of American Red Cross Disaster Services is to ensure nationwide disaster planning, preparedness, community disaster education, mitigation, and response that will provide the American people with quality services delivered in a uniform, consistent and responsive manner. www.redcross.org

Engineers Without Borders: Engineers Without Borders - USA (EWB-USA) is a nonprofit humanitarian organization established to partner with developing communities worldwide in order to improve their quality of life. This partnership involves the implementation of sustainable engineering projects, while involving and training internationally responsible engineers and engineering students. www.ewb-usa.org/

All Parkson employees are encouraged to contribute with either time or money to any of these causes. Employees will work closely with the Parkson Citizenship Council to maximize donations, finance activities and materials such as Water Safety Handbooks, and volunteer time to assist these organizations in their efforts.
