Free Open Source Resume Posting and Job Search Web Service Launched
Samizdat Productions has launched a free web service for job searching and for posting resumes and employment offers.
The service, named Jerimoth and located at http://jerimoth.com/, stores resumes and employment postings in a richly-detailed, highly-structured XML format that's compatible with the HR-XML standard.
For example, an XML-formatted resume stores the user's name, location, detailed work history, and other information in the same place in each file. That makes viewing and comparing resumes much easier and allows them to be easily processed programmatically. Likewise, XML job offers store rates, skills, worksite, contract vs. full-time, and similar information in the same place.
Job seekers can post and search for free, and for a limited time employers and recruiters can post employment offers for free as well. Assistance is available to transform an existing job offer feed into the XML format used by Jerimoth.
The web service consists of a GUI application that communicates with a server that runs at http://jerimoth.com/. Advanced users can use the web service API directly to submit jobs or perform searches.
The client and server software have been released as Open Source, and can be downloaded from http://sourceforge.net/projects/jerimoth/ . The software is written in Java, and uses Apache Axis (specifically doc-lit), Castor, and MySQL. Information for developers is available at http://jerimoth.com/developers.html
Founded in 1995, Samizdat Productions (http://tolstoy.com/) develops web sites and software using Java, C++, PHP, and MySQL, including the highly-acclaimed JConfig product (http://tolstoy.com/samizdat/jconfig.html).
