Embolden Design Wins Prestigious Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business...

Web development firm Embolden Design, Inc. (www.embolden.com) has won the Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility, a prestigious award recognizing select employers nationwide who successfully use workplace flexibility to meet both organizational and employee goals.

The scoring process was rigorous. As a winner, Embolden Design ranks in the top 20% -- the 80th percentile -- of employers nationally in terms of flexible work programs, policies and culture. Employee feedback comprised two-thirds of the scoring criteria for each company. In Embolden's8217;s case, employer practices were corroborated by employees's8217; views about the company's8217;s flexibility practices.

The Sloan Award for Business Excellence is part of When Work Works, a nationwide initiative to highlight companies that have made real commitments to using workplace flexibility as at tool to enhance business and employees's8217; success. When Work Works is a project of Families and Work Institute (FWI) sponsored by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation in partnership with The Center for Workforce Preparation, an affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and the Twiga Foundation. Past recipients of the award include Nortel, Capital One Financial, United States Environmental Protection Agency, Taco Bell and Ernst & Young.

's8220;We's8217;re both excited and proud to be recognized at this level,'s8221; remarked Embolden President Ann-Marie Harrington. 's8220;Since Embolden's8217;s inception in 1998, I have made an effort to place as much importance on sustaining high morale as I did in achieving the bottom line. I's8217;ve learned that flexible schedules and flexible personal time for my staff have yielded greater engagement and productivity from my employees and helped propel my business.'s8221;

Very early on, Ann-Marie sowed the seeds for a positive culture and a loyal staff, explained Embolden Vice President for Web Development and Design Marc Ardizzone, an employee since 1998. She cultivated a unique work/life balance for her staff, while promoting excellence, respect, fun and profits. Her employees simply like working for her and she is rewarded in spades.

In addition to offering competitive wages and health and financial benefits, Embolden offers its employees a progressive work schedule policy. Some employees work part-time (including two mom staffers) and non-traditional shifts. They sometimes telecommute and, when warranted, work flexible weekly hours. Harrington also offers a generous personal time off (PTO) policy, accommodating her staff'ss commitments and passions outside of work.

Embolden Design, Inc. is a leading New England web development and consulting firm whose clients include The RI Foundation, Brown University, MetLife, BankRI, Yale University, The Hartford Foundation for Public Giving and Public Television.
