A new book entitled Recruiting Hispanics: Success in Hiring Spanish Speakers is poised to become a big hit with companies facing barriers when trying to hire Hispanics. We all know that
having a Hispanic workforce gives companies a competitive advantage says author Blaire Borthayre. With 42 million Hispanics in the United States, businesses are scrambling to provide
goods and service to this often underserved market. Since half of the Hispanic adults are foreign born, many seek out companies that can serve them in their native language. Without
Spanish speakers, companies cannot tap into the market effectively.
Often recruiters are using traditional methods that are not going to work with the Hispanic market segment says Borthayre. Non-traditional recruiting doesn'st cost alot of money and word
of mouth does most of the work for you after awhile. The book breaks the Hispanic community into four segments and explains which venues work best for each segment.
Borthayre says that overall what works best is community involvement with churches, social organizations and community groups that serve Hispanics.
It'ss about building brand and establishing yourself as a company that has an inclusive culture. The book offers extensive resources for Hispanic organizations, media, associations,
advocacy groups and methods for connecting with community leaders. Ms. Borthayre is a second generation Mexican American who has worked with the Hispanic population for the last fifteen
years. She conducted focus groups for the book to determine where Hispanics heard about their current job, what attracted them to the position and what made them stay. Training,
opportunities for advancement and trust in the employer were some of the top attractions.
The book also covers employee sponsorship through visas, immigration compliance and Hispanic market segmentation.
