Kentucky Soldier Wins Hunting Contest While Stationed in Iraq

"What a birthday present!" exclaimed SPC Rusty McKay upon receiving the news that he was the winner in the August 15th drawing for a Whitetail deer hunt at Canoe Creek Ranch in Central Kentucky.

SPC Rusty McKay's birthday is coming up. It didn't look like there would be much celebrating this year. On his second tour in Iraq he knew it would just be another workday. It wouldn't be much different from his last birthday, which he also celebrated in Iraq. Just 4 days before his birthday he was talking to his wife, Donna, in Kentucky about the birthday present he wanted.

Rusty told his wife about the contest he had been entering at the Kentucky hunting ranch, Canoe Creek Ranch. Almost every night after work Rusty would check his email, visit Canoe Creek Ranch.com and submit an entry or two.

An avid hunter since the age of 8, Rusty really wanted to win the 3 day guided Whitetail deer hunt. He has always wanted to go on a guided hunt and it is scheduled to take place in December when he expects to be home.

The drawing had already been held but the public announcement had not been made when Rusty told his wife that night, "I'm going to win because it's my birthday." After he finished his call he checked his email and found the official notification that he was, indeed, the winner of the contest.

Congratulations, Rusty, and Happy Birthday!
